PAJARO VALLEY WATER BOARD APPROVES PLAN
Watsonville, CA With twenty months, almost two dozen meetings, and hundreds of hours invested, The Ad Hoc Basin Management Plan Committee (BMP) presented their recommendations to the Pajaro Valley Water Management Agencys Board of Directors.
The presentation was made during a combined Board and BMP Committee public workshop. The board was asked to concur with the committee recommendations to use water more efficiently, optimize the use of existing water deliveries, and develop the most cost-effective new water supplies. The goal of the recommended list of projects and conservation efforts is to bring the Pajaro Valley groundwater basin into balance and halt seawater intrusion.
The agency staff recommended that the board accept the BMP Committee report and plan. Director Persoff moved to accept the recommendation of the staff, and after a lengthy discussion, the board voted 6 to 1 to approve with director Osmer dissenting. In the words of board chair Rosemarie Imazio, We move forward!
Background information on the BMP committees work as well as the PowerPoint used in the final board presentation can be found on the agencys website www.pvwater.org
